Passengers take action after bus driver’s medical emergency

In an incredible incident, CCTV footage shows how passengers take control of a bus after the driver collapses.

Footage recorded inside a Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) bus shows how two passengers on the bus realized when the driver was experiencing a medical emergency and safely stopped the bus.

The moment was captured on camera as the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 along Route 1, Hillside to Hancock Plaza, according to Denver7.

According to MMT, the driver experienced a medical emergency while driving the bus and fell out of his seat. Two men on board were worried. One of the men could be seen approaching the driver and asking, “Are you okay?”

The second man ran to help behind the bust and said, “You need to put on the brakes.” He was able to safely stop the vehicle near Academy Boulevard and Astrozon Boulevard and told MMT dispatch that the driver was having a seizure.

Elaine Sheridan, who works at MMT, praised both men for their quick thinking in the situation.

“One who was fully aware of the driver’s situation and then the other who just jumped into action and stopped the bus,” Sheridan said, Denver7 reported. “It’s a miracle.”

Sheridan also said MMT is reaching out to both people to thank them.

First responders quickly arrived at the scene, however, the driver died despite efforts to assist him. The driver was identified as TJ Turner, 32, by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

MMT posted on social media: “Please keep our drivers in mind during this difficult time.”
