Gen Z doubts Kamala Harris worked at McDonald’s

A majority of Gen Z believes Donald Trump’s claims that the vice president lied about working there in the past, a new poll shows.

Trump has repeatedly said he does not believe Kamala Harris, who said she briefly worked for a fast-food chain at a branch in Alameda, California, during a summer between college semesters in the early 1980s.

About 38 percent of Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) said they think “Donald Trump is correct in saying that Kamala Harris never worked at McDonald’s,” according to a survey conducted on behalf of the News weekby market research firm Talker Research.

Comparatively, 33% said they believe “Kamala Harris worked at McDonald’s,” while 28% said they were “not sure.”

The survey interviewed 514 people between October 22nd and 23rd. News week contacted Talker Research to request its margin of error.

However, when looking at polls overall, across all age groups, the majority (38 percent) said they believe Harris worked at McDonald’s, with 32 percent saying they believe she did not.

Among millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996), 36% said they believed in Harris, 33% said they believed in Trump and 32% said they were not sure.

The majority (38%) of Generation X (people born between 1965 and 1980) also said they believed in Harris, while 29% said they believed in Trump and 32% said they were unsure.

About 43% of Baby Boomers (people born between 1946 and 1964) said they believe Harris, which is more than the 32% who said they believed Trump and the 24% who said they weren’t sure.

Similarly, most people in the Silent Generation (people born between 1925 and 1945) said they believed Harris (57%), while 29% said they believed Trump and 14% said they weren’t sure.

This came after Trump pulled a shift at a McDonald’s branch in Feasterville-Trevose in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, last weekend, a period that was more popular among Gen Z, the same polls show.

Derek Giacomantonio, owner of the McDonald’s franchise, welcomed Trump’s request for a visit. “It is a core value of my organization that we proudly open our doors to all who visit the Feasterville community,” he said in a statement.

Harris, the Democratic nominee, spoke during her campaign about working at a McDonald’s restaurant in college to highlight that she can directly relate to the life experiences of middle- and working-class Americans.

Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams previously said the New York Times“When Trump feels desperate, all he knows how to do is lie. He can’t understand what it’s like to have a summer job because he was given millions on a silver platter, only to screw it up.”

News week contacted Harris and Trump’s teams via email for comment. It also reached out to McDonald’s via email for comment.
