Samsung hinted at launching triple foldable phone next year, no budget foldable in pipeline yet

Samsung is reportedly making progress on launching a tri-fold smartphone following the success of its foldable devices. While Samsung pioneered foldable technology, the move to a tri-fold design appears to reflect recent innovations from Huawei.

Speculation about Samsung’s work on a triple phone has been circulating since early 2023, with rumors that it delayed the launch of the Galaxy S23 FE to prioritize this project. While a concept for this triple device was showcased at the Samsung Developers Conference in October 2023, an official launch has yet to happen, with expectations now set for 2025.

2 new Samsung foldables in 2025

According to a report by ZDNet Korea, Samsung Electronics is planning to launch two new foldable devices in 2025. One of them is an entry-level clamshell foldable smartphone and the other is a tri-foldable smartphone designed for fold in two places, potentially revolutionizing the market.

The components of the triple phone have already been developed, but the final decision on its launch rests with the leadership of Samsung’s MX division.

No plans for budget foldables yet

Samsung recently revealed the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, an update to the company’s foldable lineup. However, contrary to previous rumors, Samsung has confirmed that it has no plans to launch a cheaper version of its Galaxy Z Fold series.

South Korean publication SisaJournal reported that the company rejected the idea of launching a budget foldable model, refuting speculation that a more affordable device could cost as little as $80 (roughly Rs 67,000).

Despite the value Samsung’s foldables offer, especially with competitors like OnePlus, the company has faced criticism for not advancing hardware at the same pace as some Chinese manufacturers. However, Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z Fold series was introduced to offer users more variety, not just as a high-end product.
