Commanders named possible trade suitor for two-time Super Bowl champion

The Washington Commanders were arguably the most pleasant surprise of the 2024 season so far after jumping to an unexpected 5-2 record in Year 1 under rookie Jayden Daniels.

Daniels has been incredible through his first seven games and is easily the biggest reason why Washington is atop the NFC East. On the other hand, the Commanders’ defense could be better and an improvement on that side of the ball could be the difference between being ready and winning in the playoffs.

One area where the Commanders could use some help is in the secondary, where they lack reliable options at cornerback. With that in mind, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wants to see Washington reach a deal with the New England Patriots for Jonathan Jones.

Washington’s commanders could also kick Jones’ tires. Washington is a contender at 5-2, but ranks just 23rd in net yards per pass attempt allowed.

Jones is in the midst of a bad season, but he’s also on one of the worst teams in the league, so that’s certainly not helping his cause. It’s safe to say he should be better off with an improved supporting cast on a contending team.

Still, Jones has a better coverage grade than anyone Washington has started at this position this season and has proven he can be a serviceable starter at worst during his career.

He would immediately provide an upgrade to Washington’s lackluster group and offer valuable experience with over eight seasons of NFL experience and a pair of Super Bowl rings on his finger.

The 31-year-old cornerback is in the final year of his two-year, $19 million contract, and while he isn’t looking to raise a ton in a trade, the Patriots should get what they can for him before he joins. free agency in 2025.
