Rep. Cleaver announces .3 million for repairs to Independence Towers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D – Kansas City) announced $1.3 million for repairs to Independence Towers.

Fannie Mae provided the money to Trigild Inc., the court-appointed trustee overseeing the apartment complex’s properties.

The funding is in addition to the $425,000 Fannie Mae previously provided to address renters’ concerns.

Independence Towers was placed into receivership earlier this year at the request of Fannie Mae after the original owner failed to maintain good living conditions as we reported earlier.

The money will go toward pest control, building security, appliance replacement, flooring, interior repairs, painting and more.

“The fire of concern about living conditions across the country continues to burn with the embers of renter dissatisfaction. It is imperative that we listen to the growing frustration of renters across the country and implement the necessary reforms that ensure every renter has access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. housing,” Cleaver said.
