In two days, two people have been convicted of stealing copper wire in the eastern metro.

On Wednesday, 29-year-old Suran Rai appeared in Ramsey County District Court and was given a 360-day deferred sentence in the Ramsey County Jail with two years of probation.. Rai also received four days credit for the time he had already spent there.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Dei Gay Moo, who pleaded guilty in August, was convicted Tuesday in Washington County Court of aiding and abetting property damage. There, Moo’s 25-month prison sentence was suspended with five years’ probation and he was given credit for the 63 days he had already spent in the Washington County Jail.

Rai and Moo are among several people charged for a role in stealing copper wire in the area earlier this year.

A third person charged for a role in the theft ring, Eh Tha Blay, was also expected to be sentenced on Wednesday. Instead, Blay became the second person in the ring to skip a conviction after Aye May did the same weeks ago. At the time of publication, they both have warrants out for their arrest.
