The Jatiya Party (JaPa) in Rangpur city today (October 26) held a protest rally in response to the planned visit of Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, two key coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The party members took out a procession from the party office in the Central Road area of the city. With bamboo sticks in hand, they marched through the main roads and converged on Payra Square for the rally.

They alleged that certain individuals associated with the Student Anti-Discrimination Movement were involved in hatching conspiracies against JaPa.

During the meeting, JaPa co-chairman and former mayor of Rangpur, Md Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, said that JaPa had been invited to participate in the first round of dialogue with the Chief Advisor and gave his views on the necessary reforms.

“But unexpectedly, the party was excluded from the next round of dialogue due to statements by Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, which is disappointing. Why would the government make such a decision based on the opinions of two students? treat JaPa this way,” he added.

Mostafizur also claimed that law and order is still not normal.

The meeting between Hasnat, Sarjis and students of Begum Rokeya University was scheduled for 3 pm. However, although Sarjis attended as scheduled, Hasnat did not come to Rangpur today.

Earlier, on October 14, JaPa declared Hasnat and Sarjis “persona non grata” in Rangpur until they withdrew their statements about the party.
