Indore man charged with raping colleague, forcing her to convert to Islam and threatening to kill her

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A man has been charged for allegedly raping a woman, assaulting her and threatening to kill her after she refused to convert to her religion in Indore.

The suspect allegedly raped her on the pretext of marriage and then tied the knot with another woman. Two years later, he contacted the victim again, said he was divorced and assured her he would marry her. He repeatedly sexually exploited her. He forced her to convert to Islam, and when she objected, threatened to kill her.

Police have filed a case against a man following allegations of cheating, physical assault and threats against a woman.

According to the woman’s complaint, the man repeatedly promised marriage but later pressured her to convert to religion. When she refused, he became violent and threatened to kill her.

According to information, the victim moved to Indore in 2018 for a job. She met colleague Sadik Sheikh and the duo developed a relationship. Sadik proposed marriage shortly afterwards and on March 1, 2019, he visited her house and allegedly forced her into an intimate relationship. But whenever the victim brought up the subject of marriage, Sadik would turn away and insist that she convert to his religion first. Despite his promises, Sadik married another woman under family pressure, abruptly ending contact with the victim.

In 2021, Sadik started talking to her again, claiming that he had divorced and expressed his intention to marry the victim. The victim trusted his words and allowed him to visit her, allegedly continuing to exploit her under false pretenses of a future together. Every time she sought clarity, he was physically abused and threatened to harm her if she made their relationship public.

Complaint filed after 3 years

Fearing for her safety, the victim initially remained silent. With encouragement from friends and relatives, she mustered the courage to file a complaint.

Police have now registered a case against Sadik Sheikh at Lasudia police station and initiated investigation into the allegations of cheating, coercion and threats.
