‘Lady Don’ arrested for involvement in shooting at Burger King in Delhi that left 1 person dead

A 19-year-old woman was arrested by Delhi Police on Friday for her alleged role in a shootout at a Burger King store at Rajouri Nagar in Delhi on June 18. The woman, Annu Dhankar, was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border on Friday afternoon, according to police.

Dhankar is said to have helped the Himanshu Bhau gang in the gunfight that killed 26-year-old man Aman Joon of another gang.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Dhankar lured the victim, a suspected member of the Ashok Pradhan gang, to the Burger King store on the pretext of a date and kept him entertained until two assailants arrived and shot him.

More than 50 customers and 10 staff members were present in the eatery when the attackers fired at least 25 bullets at Joon.

Dhankar’s role as the prime suspect came to light during the investigation, said Amit Kaushik, deputy commissioner of police (special cell). She called Joon to meet her and passed the information on to her alleged boyfriend, Bhau.

Bhau had claimed responsibility for the murder on social media, saying that Joon was involved in the murder of their colleague Shakti Dad in 2020.

The two attackers involved in the gunfight were killed in a police encounter in July, while Dhankar managed to escape. She was last seen on CCTV footage at Katra railway station a day after the murder, police said.

She had been hiding in a paying guesthouse in Kota for the past four months, a second officer said. Because she was 19 years old and looked like a student, she could easily hide and no one suspected anything as there were hundreds of students, the officer said.

On Thursday, police received a tip-off that Dhankar was seen traveling in a bus from Kota, from where she reached Lucknow and proceeded to Lakhimpur Kheri. We were told that she was approaching the Indo-Nepal border. A team immediately went there and caught her at the border,” said DCP Kaushik.

Dhankar came on the police radar after a shooting incident in Sonipat in January. According to police, she fled Rohtak after the incident and moved to Delhi.
