Dodger Stadium comes to a complete standstill after Shohei Ohtani leaves the game with an injury

During Teoscar Hernández’s at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2 of the World Series, Shohei Ohtani attempted to steal second base.

The designated hitter of the Los Angeles Dodgers took off toward second base when the baseball left Clay Holmes’ hand. New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells shot to catch Ohtani at second base, but not before falling into a slide.

Ohtani’s left hand hit the ground first and took the brunt of his fall. He stayed on the ground and called for a timeout after the referee called him out on the throw. He winced in pain and clutched his left arm as a hush fell over the crowd at Dodger Stadium.

The 30 year old was helped off the field by an athletic trainer, who held his arm all the way to the dugout. It was later mentioned on the broadcast that Ohtani was experiencing pain in his shoulder, but the severity of the injury is not yet known.
