Inactives, watching, time and more

Inactives, watching, time and more

New England is on the hunt save his season.

The Patriots, losers of six straight games, are back at Gillette Stadium on Sunday to take on the Jets a disastrous trip to London.

The last time these teams met — a 24-3 win for the Jets in Week 3 — Drake Maye made a cameo appearance in the fourth quarter as New York passed dominated the Patriots’ offensive linewith seven sacks, including two in Maye’s limited action.

The Jets are 2-5 and have lost four straight games, averaging just over 15 points per game in those games, and coach Robert Saleh was fired after a Week 5 loss to the Vikings.

Five things to watch during the Patriots-Jets rematch Sunday at Gillette Stadium – 10:45 a.m.

By Khari Thompson

Drake Maye’s first action of the season, a cameo appearance in the final minutes of a 24-3 loss to the Jets in Week 3 was just a taste as the Patriots prepared the rookie to take over the offense while watching behind Jacoby Brissett.

On Sunday, the Patriots will serve up a full Maye course under center at Gillette Stadium, while the rival Jets are back in town.

New York’s pass rush enjoyed the Patriots offensive line last time I posted seven sacks, including two in Maye’s limited action. It’s the most sacks the Patriots have given up in a game this season.

New England’s defense, which was a strength last year, has struggled in recent weeks, allowing 170 yards or more in three straight games. The Jets were the last opponent to hold the Patriots to 4 yards per carry.

Will the Patriots be able to keep Maye upright, score points and stop the run? Here are five things to look out for.

We all know about the Patriots’ woes. But the Jets aren’t much better, and they would be good. – 10:30 am

By Chad Finn

Um, we know all about the Patriots’ woes. Six straight losses, including a 32-16 victory over the Jaguars last Sunday in London. The league’s 30th-ranked offense (262.9 yards per game). The league’s 25th-ranked defense (359.6 yards per game, and trending in the wrong direction). A rookie coach who tends to have to walk back on Monday, no matter what regrettable things he said on Sunday. A wide reception area that has collected more cryptic comments on social media than receptions.

We knew this team was rebuilding. We knew it would take years. But the recurrence of chaos and confusion seven games into Jerod Mayo’s tenure is a reminder of how good we’ve had it for so long, and how difficult the climb will be to getting back to being competitive in the way fans desire. Many of us here have forgotten what a crappy football team looks like. But we could also do it without being reminded of it every time. . . single . . . week.

So let’s talk about the Jets’ woes, because yes, they should be good, maybe even a Super Bowl contender with quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning from his Achilles injury, and instead they’re 2-5, or two games behind where they were seven games last season with Zach Wilson at QB. That’s my kind of comedy.
