Rebecca Myrick charged in connection with fentanyl overdose death in Elkmont

ELKMONT, Ala. (WAF) – A woman has been charged after a man was found dead of an alleged fentanyl overdose in Elkmont on Saturday evening.

According to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Witty Mill Road for a possible overdose around 7:55 p.m.

After officers arrived, they found 54-year-old Lawrence Ward Light deceased.

Detectives were then called to the home. During the investigation, investigators determined probable cause to obtain a search warrant for the residence.

Following the investigation, investigators determined that Rebecca Myrick, 60, of Elkmont, allegedly provided Light fentanyl which, once ingested, caused his death.

Investigators found additional fentanyl and drug paraphernalia during their search of the home.

The sheriff’s office said probable cause was found to arrest Myrick on the following charges:

  • Manslaughter – Non-family – Other weapon
  • Unlawful Distribution of Controlled Substances
  • Possession of controlled substances – dangerous drugs

Myrick is currently being held without bond.

The sheriff’s office said they are seeing an increase in fentanyl overdoses and say it is critical to recognize that “those spreading this poison are endangering not only those struggling with addiction, but our entire community.”
