2 women raped after storming into house, arrested

Thiruvananthapuram: Two men were arrested on charges of raping a 20-year-old woman after tying her up in her home Mangalapuram on Saturday afternoon.
The suspects are employees of a local cable operator in Vavarambalam, had come to replace a damaged cable near her house. They committed the crime after realizing the woman was home alone.
Hours after the assault, police arrested two Kollam Natives, who were identified by the victim. The arrested persons are Baiju, 35, from Kottapuram near Kottiyam, and Jicko Shaji, 27, from Poothakkulam in Paravoor. They have been remanded in police custody after being produced before a magistrate under multiple charges including IPC Section 376 rapeSection 354 for outraging the modesty of a woman, Section 451 for criminal trespass, Section 326 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by means of a weapon, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
According to police reports, Jicko has three previous assault cases filed against him at Paravur police station.
Baiju had been working with the local cable operator for three years, while Jicko only joined the company a week ago. On the day of the incident, they arrived in the area for work and noticed that the woman’s parents had left the house. Around noon, when her brother also went outside, the suspect took the opportunity to storm into the house.
Once inside, they forced a cloth into her mouth and tied her to a bed before sexually assaulting her. However, she managed to escape and alerted the locals. By then the attackers had fled. From information provided by locals, police learned that the perpetrators were local cable workers. They quickly contacted all the cable operators in the area, and only Vinayaka Cables was working there in the morning. The suspects were arrested at the office and subsequently identified by the victim.
