Man, 90, kills woman in apparent murder-suicide at nursing home

A distraught 90-year-old man shot and killed his wife and killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide at a Pennsylvania nursing home, according to reports.

The drama unfolded Thursday at the Manatawny Manor nursing home in East Coventry, when the man allegedly walked into his 89-year-old wife’s room and fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself, a police spokesman said. report from WFMZ-TV News.

The man was “seriously injured” and later died in hospital, the newspaper said.

Police in Pennsylvania responded to shots fired at the Manatawny Manor nursing home during a murder-suicide.

“He’s someone who has been here a number of times before,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe told the station. “I’m sure he said something when he came in, but whether that had anything to do with what happened here today, it’s still so early for us.

“We are treating this incident as an isolated incident,” he said. “The nursing home here has done everything in its power and continues to provide resources to the people living in the facility.”

Police have not identified the shooter or his wife.

Relatives of other nursing home residents said the shooting startled everyone.

“He just said he heard some commotion and they closed the door to his room and as I was talking to him they opened the door again,” Pat Erb of Boyerton said of his father. “He was fine.”
