First Alert Weather: Mostly sunny, with lake effect showers east of Rochester

First Alert Weather: Mostly sunny, with lake effect showers east of Rochester

Western New York woke up very cool on Sunday with temperatures dipping to 30 degrees at the Rochester airport this morning, although cold northwest winds brought a wind chill to the low 20s.

These winds will not only keep us cool, but will also bring some lake effect showers to areas mainly southwest and east of Rochester. For most of Monroe County up to the Finger Lakes, expect mostly sunshine and dry weather. Any lake effect showers will hug the lakeshore and move inland east of Rochester, so Sodus Point can expect fast hail showers especially Sunday morning and evening.

Sunday’s highs will remain in the low 50s. Lake showers may continue overnight for the Monroe County shoreline east toward Sodus Point. Accumulations will be without a trace. Overnight temperatures will still be cool in the mid-30s.

High pressure moves into our area on Monday, but we will remain in the upper 50s due to daytime high temperatures. Winds are expected to decrease to 5-10 mph on Monday, which will be a better day to rake the lawn after a windy weekend. After a brief disruption on Tuesday, temperatures will rise to near record levels on Wednesday. A high of 77 degrees is currently forecast for Wednesday, just one degree lower than the record high of 78 degrees in 1946.

A cold front will arrive Thursday, which could impact trick-or-treaters with some rain showers on Halloween.
