The Greens’ blocking of legislation in the Senate and MP Max Chandler-Mather’s support for the CFMEU are to blame for the disappointing results in the Queensland election, says Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.

After congratulating incoming Prime Minister David Crisafulli and crediting Steven Miles for an election result that was “much closer than many people predicted”, Plibersek commented on the Greens’ victory in Queensland.

Asked whether there would be a flow-on effect federally for the Greens, Plibersek said this was the feedback Labour’s door knockers received during the campaign.

“People said they were shocked (by) Max Chandler-Mather stood up and defended the… criminal elements of the CFMEU from the back of a truck with a megaphone, instead of voting for housing, cheaper housing and more of that. be built,” Plibersek told Seven’s Sunrise.

‘They are blocking housing reform. In my region, which is holding back environmental law reform, the creation of an environmental protection agency is something environmentalists have been pushing for for decades, and it is the Greens who are blocking it.”

Plibersek claimed the public had realized the Greens “are not serious about making progress”.

“People look at it and say, ‘These people aren’t serious about making progress. They are only about opposition. It’s just about making a point.”
