PSG defeated 10-man Marseille 3-0 and remains the leader in Ligue 1

MARSEILLE, France: A first-half nightmare for Olympique de Marseille as they conceded three goals and lost midfielder Amine Harit to a straight red card, while Paris St Germain recorded a resounding 3-0 away win on Sunday to move three points clear at the top of the competition. League 1.

The victory was PSG’s sixth straight win in the league over their bitter rivals, with Marseille struggling to contain them from kick-off before quickly collapsing after midfielder Joao Neves broke the deadlock in the seventh minute.

The industrious Harit was shown a red card 13 minutes later for a high challenge on PSG’s Marquinhos, effectively ending any hope of a comeback, but video replays indicated the challenge was relatively harmless.

Things went from bad to worse for Marseille nine minutes later when defender Leonardo Balerdi put the ball past goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli into his own net to make it 2–0, and winger Bradley Barcola scored his eighth league goal of the season, making it score came to 3. -0 before half time.

Some Marseille fans were on their way to the exit before half-time, but those who stayed continued to loudly support their team and cheer them on in their tough battle on the pitch.

Barcola squandered an excellent opportunity to score his second and PSG’s fourth just after half-time, but he shot wide of the target with his weaker left foot and the goal was at his mercy.

The Marseille fans were almost rewarded with a late goal, but Lillian Brassier’s header from an 85th-minute set-piece flew high over the crossbar.

With all teams in the top flight having played nine matches, Sunday’s win moved PSG to 23 points, three points clear of AS Monaco at the top of the table, with Marseille a further three points back in third.
