Here is every assault rifle in Black Ops 6 ranked, from best to worst:

The XM4 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

XM4 / Treyarch

The XM4 is the current king of Black Ops 6. There are few things this weapon can’t do or doesn’t do well. It is extremely versatile. It has manageable recoil and good damage over long distances and is also more than capable of competing at short and medium ranges.

The XM4 currently has few downsides.

The Model L assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Model L / Treyarch

The first three entries on this list are still up in the air. Like the XM4, the Model L is extremely strong and versatile. It can do what an AR needs to do at longer distances, but can also hold its own at shorter distances.

This is a powerful weapon that has a case for being number 1.

The GPR 91 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

GPR 91 / Treyarch

The GPR 91 feels like it lags a bit behind the Model L and XM4. However, it is still a strong assault rifle and has a case that can be used in a metagame. It has more difficulty over longer distances than the Model L and XM4, but handles excellently over medium and short distances.

The AMES 85 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

AMES 85 / Treyarch

Now we have reached the middle bracket with this list. The AMES 85 and AK-74 are fairly interchangeable. For the purposes of this list, the AMES 85 gets the edge because it will be much more controllable at longer distances for the vast majority of players.

The main purpose of an assault rifle is to hold corners in positions of power on the map to close off certain areas to your team. With the AMES 85 this is a lot easier than with the AK-74.

The AK-74 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

AK-74 /Treyarch

The AK variant of weapons has always had a very specific niche. It’s not the most accurate, it doesn’t have the most range, BUT it hits like an absolute truck. It’s going to be hard to beat just about any other AR at optimal AR ranges, but at medium and close range the AK is king (at least among ARs).

The BO6 AK-74 is no different. It’s going to be hard to outdo basically any other AR at optimal AR distances, but at medium and close range the AK is king (at least among ARs).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Goblin Mk2 assault rifle.

Goblin Mk2/Treyarch

This is the part of the list where we get to the downright bad weapons. Now the balance in BO6 seems to be relatively decent, so while these last two may be downright bad, they aren’t completely useless in a non-competitive regular public match.

When Rated Play comes out, using the Goblin Mk2 or AS VAL as they currently are might as well be trolling. It’s just lacking in many areas. It doesn’t do what the better ARs do nearly as well as the better ARs do. It really is that simple.

The AS VAL assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

AS VAL / Treyarch

This gun is terrible. The built-in suppressor is completely useless for most people and takes away the muzzle mounting slot. It lacks damage and range. It doesn’t have much kick, but it has enough that it’s just plain bad. It’s a bad weapon. Don’t use this unless you’re going for camouflage or just messing around.
