Weekend shootings in Milwaukee; The ages of the victims range from 12 to 49 years

It was a violent weekend Milwaukee. One of the victims was just 12 years old – and family members identified a 17-year-old shot to death as Monte Edmond. A wake was held for him on Sunday, October 27.

Heartbreak and loss filled the air on N. 18th Street on Sunday. Family, friends and classmates gathered to remember Edmond. His mother said Edmond was shot Saturday near 18th and Capitol.

“The gun violence is ridiculous,” said Shonie, Edmond’s mother. “My son was great. He had a great personality, he touched everyone around him.”

Milwaukee Police say around 4:40 PM on Saturday, Edmond was shot and killed. A 20-year-old was arrested.

“He was meant to do great things and he shouldn’t have left at 17,” Shonie said.

The support was reassuring. But family members say teen gun violence must stop.

“My message to the youth is: be more self-aware, think critically and don’t do anything you will regret,” Shonie said.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, police said a 12-year-old was shot and killed near 48th and Center. According to the police, a 15-year-old has been arrested in this case.

Police are urging anyone with information about any of these cases to call them.
