New teen-created event at Bettendorf Public Library sparks interest in environmental awareness and nature conservation

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – A new event created by teens, for teens, will help future leaders grow their interest in environmental awareness and conservation, while giving them the opportunity to meet like-minded peers and community organizers.

On Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive, will host the first Teen Environment Summit, according to a news release from event organizers. It is a free event created by the library’s Teen Leadership Committee, which consists of a group of enthusiastic teens who work with library staff to improve services and programs.

The summit will take place on the second floor of the library, event organizers said. It will be a one-stop shop for teenagers aged 12 to 18 from across the region, who will be able to access volunteer opportunities, explore hobbies and find out about work opportunities.

The Teen Environment Summit will feature local experts from organizations such as iLivehere, a program of the Scott County Waste Commission, Partners of Scott County Watersheds and the Iowa Wildlife Federation, event organizers said. This event also includes trivia, crafts in the library’s Creation Studio and a brainstorming session for teens from various schools and environmental clubs to share ideas on how they can help shape the environmental movement in the Quad Cities.
