Caught on video: Doorbell camera captures moment neighbor saves choking child in Shorewood, Illinois

SHOREWOOD, Ill. (WLS) — A choking child was rescued by his neighbor in the southwestern suburbs over the weekend, and it was all caught on video.

A Ring doorbell camera video recorded in Shorewood on Saturday evening showed Stephanie George running across the street to her neighbor’s house for help as her son Sebastian was choking.

George told ABC7 that her 7-year-old son has a rare genetic syndrome called Cornelia de Lange syndrome.

He was being tube fed when he started choking on a piece of chicken that was not mixed properly.

George said that within minutes Sebastian vomited and turned blue.

She said her first instinct was to call 911, but she worried they wouldn’t get there in time. That’s when she decided to cross the street for help from her neighbor, Gary Hutchinson.

Video showed Hutchinson placing Sebastian on his knee and beginning CPR. He continued until the chicken came loose.

“I just jumped in to help,” Hutchinson said.

George told ABC7 that Sebastian is now doing well at home after the ordeal.
