Patriots defense Davon Godchaux shocked after his name was mentioned in trade rumors

FOXBORO – Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was “shocked” to see his name mentioned in a trade rumor over the weekend.

Athletic’s Dianna Russini wrote that the Patriots will listen to any trade proposal and that Godchaux is a potential target for teams buying. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, November 5.

“Yes, I was shocked, but at the end of the day this is a case,” Godchaux told the Herald. “I mean, (expletive) happens all the time. I’m sure some guys think they can stay on the team for a long time, and something happens. This is the business of the NFL. We signed up for this.”

Godchaux’s response to the trade rumors is that it’s something he has no control over.

“Whatever happens happens in the media. I’m happy to be here,” Godchaux said. “I’m happy to be a leader. I’m glad I’m one of those big dogs in the front, but I can’t control the outside noise. I’m here. Right now, I’m here where my feet are, and I’m here with New England Patriots. I’m happy to be here.”

Godchaux signed a two-year, $18 million contract extension with a $10 million signing bonus this offseason. The Patriots really don’t have a replacement for him in the middle of their defense as their starting nose tackle. The team’s defense struggled until the unit bounced back on Sunday.
