Two people killed in small plane crash

JESSAMINE CO., Ky. (WKYT) – Authorities are investigating a small plane crash in Jessamine County.

According to the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred Sunday around 6 p.m. in a field near Ashgrove and involved a single-engine parachute plane.

Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Grimes says someone saw the plane that appeared to have crashed and called 911 shortly before 6 p.m.

Sheriff Grimes says first responders arrived on the scene within minutes of the 911 call and quickly determined that the two people on board were deceased.

He says a man and a woman, believed to be husband and wife, died in the crash. Their names have not yet been released.

According to Sheriff Grimes, the male pilot was experienced and had been flying for approximately 20 years.

A preliminary investigation is underway. The sheriff’s office says the NTSB and FAA have been notified of the crash.

The NTSB is expected to arrive at the crash site Monday morning to begin their investigation.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the area until further notice.
