Suspect wanted in attempted carjacking in Vaughan

York Regional Police (YRP) are searching for a male suspect believed to be behind an attempted armed carjacking in Vaughan last week.

YRP said On Thursday, October 24, officers were called to the area of ​​Major Mackenzie Drive and Weston Road at around 7pm.

It is alleged the victim was sitting on the passenger side of the vehicle when the suspect opened the driver’s side door, told the woman he had a gun and demanded she get out of the car.

Police say a civilian witness intervened, causing the suspect to get out of the car and flee the area on foot. The suspect is believed to have brandished a firearm before aborting the planned carjacking.

There was no physical injury.

The suspect is described as black, approximately 18 to 19 years old, approximately 6 feet tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a blue surgical mask.

The investigation is ongoing and police hope to speak to witnesses or anyone with surveillance or dashcam footage.
