Londonderry: Man charged with sex after woman seriously injured

Police have said she was approached early Sunday morning by an unknown man who pulled her into a nearby alley, where he sexually assaulted her, repeatedly punching her in the face and slamming her head against a wall.

The woman required hospital treatment due to her injuries.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said: “She suffered serious facial injuries and other injuries as a result of this terrifying ordeal from which she was only able to escape after her attacker let her go.

“The woman was then able to raise the alarm and ask for help, after which the suspect fled on foot.”

Police have asked anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact them.
