Roy Keane makes fourteen-word statement in a bizarre Instagram post after Manchester United fired Erik ten Hag

Roy Keane posted a seemingly cryptic message on Instagram just hours after Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag.

The Premier League giants The Dutchman announced this on Monday morning left the club after just over two seasons in charge.

from Ten Hag the departure came the day after United suffered a fourth Premier League defeat of the season in a 2-1 defeat away to West Ham.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was previously his assistant, but is now interim responsible for his former club.

There had been speculation for months about Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford, despite him extending his contract until 2026 in the summer.

So news of his firing may not have come as a shock to fans, and hours after the announcement Keane gave fans his opinion, albeit in somewhat bizarre circumstances

In one post on Instagramwhere Keane is in the countryside with his hood on his jacket over him, the club legend said: “On good teams, coaches hold players accountable. On great teams, players hold players accountable.”

Keane’s cryptic message could indicate that he believes United’s problems are down to both Ten Hag and the players, and not just the former.

They have scored just eight goals in nine Premier League games this season, the third lowest total of all 20 teams.

United’s defeat to West Ham at the weekend means they have also won just once in their last eight games in all competitions.

Keane recently revealed he was concerned about Ten Hag’s future at the club following the 1-1 Europa League draw against FC Twente.

“When the players came out after the game I think it was (Christian) Eriksen, another very bad game, oh my god,” he said on the Stick to football podcast.

“When players come out and say, ‘I think they might have wanted it more than us,’ I kind of gave up at that point.

“If that’s the sound coming from the dressing room, then no wonder the manager is in trouble. No wonder they’re not winning football games. That’s all.”

“But that’s where United are, just inconsistent,” he added. “They will win some games, but they will also lose a lot, that’s all.

“They’re just too open, they’re not athletic, they don’t score enough goals. I’m not sure there is a team.”

Ten Hag won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup during his time at United, who are now looking for a new permanent replacement.

talkSPORT understands Brentford’s Thomas Frank has admirers within the United hierarchy, while sporting director Dan Ashworth has worked successfully with Eddie Howe at Newcastle.

United have also recently shown interest in German national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Sources in Spain claim that former Barcelona boss Xavi has held talks over a move to Old Trafford.

Xavi has a close relationship with United chief Omar Berrada from their time at Camp Nou.
