16-year-old killed in crash in Amherst County

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that left a 16-year-old boy dead.

At 1.45pm on Saturday, a Kia Forte was traveling south on Possum Island Road towards the junction with Millennium Way. According to state troopers, the vehicle lost control, went off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and then a utility pole before overturning.

According to Virginia State Police, a passenger in the vehicle, a 16-year-old boy, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Authorities have identified the driver of the vehicle as 34-year-old Lucas S. Fretwell of Madison Heights. He was left with minor injuries.

Charges are currently pending.

The crash is still under investigation.
