1 dead, 1 in critical condition after car bursts into flames following crash outside Miami Edison Middle School – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash resulted in the cars going up in flames outside Miami Edison High School.

Miami Fire Rescue and Miami Police arrived on the scene Monday afternoon near Miami Edison High School.

A school board official was reportedly the first to notify authorities after witnessing the crash.

7Skyforce hovered above the scene, where crews surrounded several vehicles that had been on fire after the accident.

Cellphone video revealed the moments one of the vehicles caught fire. Flames could be seen coming from the car.

According to rescue crews, the woman was thrown from her vehicle and suffered burns.

She was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition for treatment.

Roads between Northwest 60th Street and 61st Street and Second Avenue remain closed.

The vehicle did not make contact with the school.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
