Subject of manhunt taken into custody in Leeds

UPDATE:

The suspect in connection with the Leeds Manhunt has been identified as 33-year-old Colton McCoy Tubbs.

He is charged with attempting to elude a law enforcement officer (felony), receiving stolen property in the first degree, burglary in the third degree, certain persons prohibited from possessing a firearm, drug trafficking, criminal mischief in the first degree, and attempts to elude a law enforcement officer (felony). ). He is currently in the St. Clair County Jail without bond.

The incident began Thursday evening, October 24, when Leeds Police were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the 8500 Block of Whitfield Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, they observed Tubbs enter the driver’s seat of the stolen vehicle and when confronted, Tubbs fled.

During the chase, Leeds Police say Tubbs collided with a planted shrub and several utility buildings in the Lowe’s Parking Lot at 8900 Weaver Avenue.

He continued to drive through the parking lot, rammed his vehicle into a security gate and drove behind the building.

Tubbs then attempted to gain entry to Orbis JCB when his car crashed into a fence and came to a halt.

Tubbs then exited the car and fled the scene on foot and was later found Friday morning, October 25, after a citizen reported him in the 8500 Block of Whitfield Avenue.

The suspect in a manhunt in Leeds that started late on Thursday evening is in custody.

Leeds Police provided an update early on Friday morning, saying the man was not believed to still be in the area. Later that morning, police announced that the man had been arrested.

No additional details were immediately provided.

Officers searched the Clairmont Park neighborhood after they say a male burglary suspect fled into a wooded area following a car chase.

According to Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin, the man believed to have committed a burglary in Walker County was driving a stolen vehicle that crashed into a fence behind Lowe’s.

The suspect, described as male, ran east into nearby woods.
