A comprehensive guide for Texas voters

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – As Texas enters its second week of early voting, it is important that voters know their rights before heading to the polls.

If you are registered to vote, but your name is not on the voter registration list due to an administrative issue, you have the right to cast a provisional vote.

In addition, all voters have the right to cast their votes in secret and should not be subjected to intimidation.

It is one of the reasons why campaigning is prohibited within 30 meters of a polling station.

This means that neither candidates nor voters may wear clothing or other objects that advertise candidates or political parties in that vicinity.

Voters have the right to receive written instructions on how to vote, and voters should always remember to check their ballot for possible errors.

Voters have the right to receive up to two additional ballots to make corrections if an error was made on the first.

Although voters may use written notes to cast their votes, cell phones, along with cameras, computers and other devices that can record sound or images, are not allowed within 100 feet of polling places.

Firearms are also prohibited in polling stations.

Perhaps most importantly, voters should always ensure they have valid photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport.

If you are having trouble voting, you can contact your county elections official, the Secretary of State’s office at 1-800-252-VOTE (8683), or the voting rights group Election Protection’s voter protection hotline at 866-OUR- VOTE (687-8683).
