Manchester United working on Ruben Amorim deal, Edin Terzic and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also linked – Paper Round

United want Amorim

The Athletic reports that Manchester United have already started the process of appointing Ruben Amorim as manager.

The Sporting CP boss was linked with the Liverpool vacancy before Arne Slot got the role, but is said to be willing to consider a move to Old Trafford.

The website writes: “Manchester United are working on a deal to appoint Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim as their new head coach.

“Sources in Portugal, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the matter, told The Athletic that the 39-year-old is open to taking the opportunity after Erik ten Hag was sacked earlier on Monday.

“United are willing to pay the ten million euro release clause in his contract with the two clubs in talks to complete a deal that would see Ruud van Nistelrooy take over as interim manager before Amorim arrives.

“Amorim has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after young managers after a string of successes at the Portuguese club, with United moving quickly after making him their No.1 target as a replacement for Ten Hag.”

Terzic mentioned as a potential replacement

Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic is also a potential replacement for the dismissed Dutchman Ten Hag.

Now that Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate are out of the running, The Sun puts Terzic’s name in the spotlight.

The newspaper reports: “Edin Terzic has rocketed to the top of Manchester United’s wish list as they look for replacements for the sacked Erik Ten Hag.

“The Dutchman was dropped as the club languished in 14th place following a shock 2-1 defeat at West Ham – which also saw the club winless in their three Europa League games.

“Thomas Tuchel was at the top of the shortlist to replace Ten Hag.

“But the former Dortmund, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager is no longer available after the FA appointed him England manager.

“Gareth Southgate was also a favored candidate, but he recently suggested he did not want to rush back into management and could take a full year off.

“So United are now focusing on Edin Terzic after SunSport exclusively revealed he was a new favorite earlier this month.”

Solskjaer could make Utd return

Another name mentioned is former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who would be a more affordable option.

With Ten Hag’s compensation yet to be agreed, United may be under financial pressure.

“Manchester United have not ruled out an approach to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.” Daily Mail explains.

“Ten Hag was sacked this morning after two and a half years in charge following the 2-1 defeat to West Ham, which condemned United to fourteenth place in the Premier League.

“United have won just three of their first nine top-flight games and are 21st in the new-look Europa League, having drawn their three opening games.

“Ten Hag could cost United around £17m in compensation and could lead to a move for Solskjaer, who has been out of management since being sacked by the Red Devils in November 2021. He is even rumored to be in contention for a move. comeback.”

Ten Hag wants a substantial severance package

After signing a new contract with Manchester United in the summer, Ten Hag hopes for serious compensation.

The Daily Star lists £7 million as the minimum amount he could be owed after his departure.

The paper states: “Erik ten Hag wants to receive a large compensation after he was fired by Manchester United.

“United announced that Ten Hag has resigned from his role at the club following Sunday’s controversial 2-1 defeat at West Ham United. The result left the Red Devils with just one win in their last eight games – a run dating back to the 7-0 defeat to Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

“The decision to sack Ten Hag was unanimous between Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Barrada, Ineos sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford and United sporting director Dan Ashworth. And the Dutchman would have accepted the decision with good decency.

“He ran out of excuses and instructed his legal team, including agent Kees Vos, to begin negotiations for damages that could exceed £7 million. Ten Hag signed a new contract extension with United until 2026 in the summer.”
