1 dead, 2 teens injured in shooting at Halloween party in Akron

Akron police are investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old dead and two other teenagers injured Saturday evening during what police say was a Halloween party.

Around 10:46 p.m., police responded to a home in the 100 block of Paris Avenue and found Lashae Ellis, who had been critically injured from a gunshot wound, police said.

Officers also found a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl who had also been shot. Both had non-life-threatening injuries. According to police, the two fled the home after being shot.

All three teens were transported to a nearby hospital, where Ellis was later pronounced dead, police said. The other two are expected to recover from their injuries.

Police said that during a Halloween party, an unknown man pulled out a gun and fired shots into the home, striking the victims.

“We’re told that a group of people entered the party within a very short period of time after at least one of those individuals pulled out a gun and started shooting. It is not clear whether that victim (Ellis) was the There is a belief that this was not the case,” said Capt. Michael Miller of the Akron Police Department.

Miller said they believe the home may have been used as a short-term rental property. The shooting remains under investigation as police continue to search for partygoers who may have answers.

“We are asking, as we often do, especially the people who were at the party to search their hearts and decide if there is anything they would like to share with us that could help move this research forward,” Miller said.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man after a brief foot chase and recovered a handgun he had discarded while fleeing, police said. However, it is not known what role he played in the shooting. He was booked into the Summit County Jail and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.
