Snowy peaks, rainy valleys and strong winds

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) –

A First Day of Weather will last until Tuesday due to watches and advisories from the National Weather Service. Turbulent weather conditions are expected to cause a Freeze Watch along with many winter weather advisories.

Watches and advice:

A Freeze Watch has been implemented for freezing temperatures up to 28°. Central Gunnison, Delta, Montrose, Hotchkiss and Uncompahgre River Basin are affected locations.

Winter weather advisories have been issued throughout Colorado. Six to 12 inches of snow and winds of 40 to 45 mph are expected on the Grand Mesa, Battlement Mesa, West Elk Mountains, Swatch Mountains and Northwest San Juan Mountains. This includes the city of Skyway, Vail, Aspen, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Marble, Telluride and Ouray.

A winter weather advisory for the Elkhead Mountains, Park Mountains and the Flat Peaks describes 1 to 8 inches of snow.

Three to 12 inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts of 28 mph, are described in a winter weather advisory for Cumbres Pass and Wolf Creek Pass.

Temperatures in the Grand Valley remain cooler, approaching Wednesday. Grand Junction is expected to reach a high of 57° today, and lows are expected to reach 30 degrees overnight. Other locations today follow a similar concept, with highs in the mid to low 50s.
