Motorcyclist seriously injured after crashing into deer

A motorcyclist suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after crashing into a deer in Newton County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Another driver was walking away from a crash in Newton County on Monday when his pickup struck a deer and rolled several times before crashing into a tree on Highway 87 South just south of Newton.

The preliminary crash investigation shows that the driver of a 2017 Indian Roadmaster motorcycle was traveling north on FM 1012, several miles northwest of Newton near the Jamestown community, at approximately 12:40 p.m. The motorcycle reportedly struck a deer on the roadway and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle after losing control due to the impact.

The rider, a 65-year-old man from Buna, was transported to Christ Southeast for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries, according to DPS.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
