FEMA assistance is still available in Tazewell County

TAZEWELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) – Federal Emergency Management Agency leaders continue to encourage people affected by the remnants of Hurricane Helene to speak with FEMA leaders at disaster recovery centers.

Disaster recovery centers, like the one in the city of Tazewell, are still open for people in need of financial assistance. FEMA officials say the recovery center will remain open as long as needed.

The Tazewell shelter is located at 197 Main Street and is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those at FEMA say they are still working to open more disaster recovery centers in areas where they are needed.

“We continue to work with our partners in the Commonwealth of Virginia to figure out where we are needed and for how long we are needed. At this time we want to emphasize that we are open in Tazewell County,” said Trey Paul, media relations specialist for FEMA.

If you plan to go to the disaster shelter for assistance, you will need to bring proof of residency, insurance information, photos of storm damage, and banking information.

“If you were affected by the storm, please stop by. You actually have nothing to lose if you get hit by the storm. Let us know what happened and there is a chance that we can provide help,” said Paul.
