Brent Venables comments on Jackson Arnold’s future at Oklahoma

Brent Venables met with reporters in Norman on Tuesday to preview Oklahoma’s Week 10 game against Maine.

With the Sooners sitting at 4-4 this season, some are already starting to look at what a brighter future could be in 2025. Given the uncertainty at the quarterback position OU has faced this season, Venables was asked if he thought Jackson Arnold would want to do that. back on the program next season.

“My assumption is that ‘you’re right, he wants to be back’” said Venables. “Why wouldn’t he? That’s how I look at it. I don’t have my head in the sand. I would be worried if I thought that way, ‘Oh, I wonder if he wants to come back.’ Well, s…, you’re the starting quarterback at Oklahoma. This is your dream. You turned away a lot of good people to come here.

‘You are now faced with headwinds and you are just going to stop now? I don’t see that in him.”

Venables also complimented Arnold’s performance against Ole Miss in Week 9. Arnold led Oklahoma to a pair of touchdown drives in the first half as the Sooners took a lead into the intermission on the road. He threw for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns on 31 attempts.

“I thought Jackson had his best performance of the year,” Venables said. “I thought he did a great job going out and playing against a top-ranked defense. Once again he completed over 70% of his passes, made many good decisions and ran the ball well. Threw it on time. He played a great game.”

Oklahoma will look to get back in the win column against Maine this weekend.
