Two semis were involved in a crash in Carpentersville on Route 31 near Miller Road at approximately 7:39 a.m.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a Freightliner hauling sand was traveling eastbound on Miller Road approaching Route 31.

Meanwhile, the driver of a Mack semi was traveling southbound on Route 31.

The driver of the Freightliner semi allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign to wait for vehicles to pass through the intersection, the sheriff’s office said.

Unable to stop in time, both semis crashed at the intersection.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the Freightliner semi was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the cab. The driver of the Freightliner died at the scene.

The Mack semi ended up in a field east of Illinois Route 31. The 60-year-old driver from Streamwood was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

As of 8:30 a.m., Route 31 was closed between Lincoln Avenue and Longmeadow Parkway.
