Five workers mowed down in Panjgur

QUETTA:

In an incident of unparalleled brutality, five workers were killed and two others injured in an attack by unknown assailants at the Paroum dam project site in Panjgur district on Tuesday. The gunmen opened fire on the workers, causing immediate fatalities, Balochistan government spokesman Shahid Rind said.

The injured and deceased were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, while police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack and directed law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. “The terrorists behind this attack will not be spared,” Bugti stated in his remarks, emphasizing a swift response.

Balochistan Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani also condemned the attack and called for increased security in vulnerable developing areas. Security has since been tightened as authorities continue their efforts to identify the attackers, who reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack.

This incident underlines the ongoing security problems in Balochistan, raising major concerns about the protection of workers working on development projects in the province. Panjgur is considered one of the most sensitive districts of Balochistan.

Militants have also targeted workers working on development projects in the area in the past. This

The incident took place more than two weeks after 20 workers were killed in Balochistan’s Duki district. The workers were miners who worked in the coal mines in the area.

On that occasion, unidentified gunmen attacked the coal mines of a local coal company. According to district authorities, the attackers used heavy weapons, including hand grenades and rocket launchers, during the attack on the mines.

Duki district chairman Haji Khairullah Nasir stated that the attackers targeted the coal mines, shooting at the workers and setting fire to the mining equipment.

He stated that the police and the Frontier Corps had been informed of the attack, but no security force personnel had arrived on the scene.

Police officials reported that the armed individuals gathered the workers into groups and opened fire on them. Duki SHO Humayun Khan Nasir confirmed that 17 bodies have been shifted to the civil hospital and more are being shifted.

Among the dead were two from Afghanistan, three from Pishin, one from Kuchlak, four from Killa Saifullah, three from Zhob and another from Loralai. All the deceased and injured workers were Pashtun.
