Rivers Health has started construction on a new emergency department

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A multi-million dollar emergency room project will give patients seeking emergency care a place in their own backyard.

Once completed, the emergency department will have 16 private treatment rooms, including two trauma rooms and five fast-track rooms designed for patients with minor illnesses or injuries.

The project also includes the renovation of the former maternity wing, an entrance and an ambulance room to support the growing community. The new Emergency Room will provide easier access for both patients and ambulances. Officials say the renovated emergency department is vital to the local economy because of the use of local contractors, and will bring more doctors.

“It’s a pride of the community, and they really fought to keep it here and it struggled for a while, and as the county grows, there’s going to be a hospital growing that will meet that need,” state Sen. Eric Tarr , R-Putnam, said.

Officials say the expected completion of the project is early 2026.
