Fatal motorcycle crash under investigation in Scioto County

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio An Ironton motorcyclist was killed Tuesday evening in a crash on State Route 522, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash, reported at 6:26 p.m., involved a motorcycle and a truck traveling in opposite directions.

Clinton Barnard, 33, was driving his 2000 Honda Goldwing northwest on SR-522 when he attempted to pass another vehicle. Authorities say Barnard lost control and veered into the oncoming lane, where his motorcycle collided with a southeastbound 2009 Freightliner truck.

The truck, driven by 39-year-old Zachary Messer of McDermott, struck Barnard’s motorcycle in the southeast lane. Barnard was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the crash, officials said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, with assistance from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the Green Township Fire Department and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office.

No charges have been filed in the accident at this time.
