Stolen ‘Bluey’ coins recovered in Sydney

In a significant recovery, Australian police have announced they have recovered more than 40,000 stolen limited edition coins inspired by the hit children’s animated series ‘Bluey’. The coins, worth one Australian dollar (65 US cents) each, were seized from a storage facility in the Sydney suburb of Wentworthville.

The theft was reported on July 12 when it was discovered that 63,000 coins, yet to be released by the Royal Australian Mint, had been stolen from a warehouse in Sydney’s Wetherill Park. The theft is investigated by police unit Strike Force Bandit, aptly named after Bluey’s father in the series.

Authorities have charged three people in connection with the theft. A 27-year-old woman, believed to be the getaway driver, was held for hours before the coins were recovered. Two men were previously charged and the police are actively looking for a fourth suspect. A coin collector, who unknowingly purchased some of the coins, has not been compensated.
