Vermont State Police are highlighting new recruitment efforts

WATERBURY, Va. (WCAX) – Faced with ongoing staffing challenges, the Vermont State Police is streamlining its recruitment process to become a trooper.

A new recruitment initiative announced Wednesday includes a “pop-up” testing site in Williston next month. They say anyone without an appointment can show up at the Vermont State Police barracks in Williston on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. and take the physical fitness test.

In addition to a $5,000 sign-up bonus, a take-home cruiser and other benefits, Officials also note that they are hiring candidates with or without a college degree and that a written test is not currently required.

The next three-week VSP basic training program at the Vermont Police Academy begins Jan. 13 and will be followed by the full academy on Feb. 3.
