Trial date set for ex-Arvin teacher accused of sex with student, 17

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A trial date has been scheduled next year for a former Arvin High teacher accused of engaging in sex acts with an underage student.

Michael Joseph Parra had a court hearing Wednesday with a trial date set for March 17, court records show. He is charged with seven felonies.

Police said in court documents that Parra’s wife contacted authorities in November 2023 after finding sexually explicit messages on his cell phone between him and a 17-year-old student.

The girl admitted to having a sexual relationship with Parra, then 44, according to the documents. She told police she willingly performed sex acts on a futon bed in the attic above his classroom and in a storage closet.
