Larimer County man convicted of distributing fentanyl that killed a Lyons man in 2023

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A Larimer County man was sentenced after he was convicted of distributing fentanyl, which resulted in the death of a man.

Jason Wahlstrom was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said he has pleaded guilty to unlawful distribution of fentanyl causing death, which is a class one drug felony.

The sheriff’s office said Wahlstrom was charged with dealing the deadly fentanyl that killed a 27-year-old man in Lyons. In October 2023, a woman called 9-1-1 after finding her family member unresponsive in their home. Emergency services arrived on the scene and found the man dead.

The Larimer County coroner ruled the 27-year-old man’s death an accident due to fentanyl poisoning.

The conviction was under a state law passed in 2022. The law called for harsher penalties for trafficking fentanyl when it results in the death of another person.
