Classes at Northwest High School were canceled Thursday due to an incident during dismissal

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – Students at Northwest High School will not be attending school Thursday after an incident occurred on campus during the afternoon dismissal.

According to sent a letter to families in the district, two unknown individuals off campus confronted a Northwest High School student during dismissal on Wednesday. The two individuals left the area and a weapon was later found off campus following the incident.

The high school went into full lockdown at 2:45 p.m., joining nearby Northwest Local Schools.

Northwest High School began releasing students to be reunited with their families through a “controlled release” at 3:24 p.m., the district said. The lockdown was lifted as soon as all students were with their parents/guardians.

A second letter was sent to families at Northwest High School on Wednesday evening, stating that administration had decided to cancel classes for students on Thursday, October 31 “to adequately prepare” for their return on Friday.

It’s still unclear what exactly happened at the high school, but Colerain Township police believe the incident was isolated. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Colerain Township Police Department at 513-321-2677.

For students needing support, the counseling office is open between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Principal Shrewsberry added.
