6A/5A girls volleyball brackets: 5 Northern Utah schools get first-round byes | News, sports, jobs

Eleven more Northern Utah girls volleyball teams learned their playoff spots when the UHSAA announced the 6A and 5A state tournament brackets Thursday morning.

Layton, Fremont, Weber, Northridge and Region 1 champion Syracuse were spared from playing in a first-round match that began Nov. 5 at home sites. The winners will head to Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center in Orem on Thursday, November 7 for the second and quarterfinals.

The 6A and 5A semifinals and championship rounds will be played Friday, Nov. 8 at UVU.

Below are matchups for Northern Utah teams. Complete brackets can be found online at uhsaa.org.

6A Playoff

Fourteen teams received byes in the first round and four teams will play first-round matches.

First round, November 5: No. No. 18 Davis (6-20) and No. 15 Riverton (13-15).

Second round, November 7: No. 9 Layton (17-11) vs. No. 8 Fremont (18-8), No. 13 Weber (13-15) vs. No. 4 Corner Canyon (21-7), No. 5 Syracuse (20-8) at No. No. 12 Westlake (14-14), Davis/Riverton vs. No. 10 Copper Hills (13-15)

5A Playoff

Eight teams received byes in the first round and 16 teams will play first-round matches.

First round, November 5: No. 24 Roy (4-19) at No. 9 Clearfield (18-10), No. 18 Bonneville (9-13) at No. 15 Cyprus (14-13), No. 22 Kearns (8-14) at No. 11 Box Elder (15-13).

Second round, November 7: No. No. 8 Timpview (16-12) vs. Roy/Clearfield, No. 5 Northridge (16-10) vs. No. 12 East High (14-11)/No. 21 Springville (7-21), No. 2 Skyline (26-2) vs. Bonneville/Cyprus, No. 6 Maple Mountain (18-10) vs. Kearns/Box Elder
