Parent sues MNPS after her child suffered a brain injury at school

Sherrill was told her child had been kicked in the head by another student and was never taken to the nurse.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A parent is suing Metro Nashville Public Schools after accusing the district of negligence.

Shanikka Sherrill claims her child with autism suffered a brain injury at school. She says her 7-year-old was injured at Granberry Elementary School in 2023.

The lawsuit claims the student came home sick, with knots and bruises on his face. When the mother started asking questions, she said the school told her her child had hurt herself.

Sherill called the director and said she had a different story. She was told her child had been kicked in the head by another student and was never taken to the nurse because the incident was not reported by a teacher.

The mother is suing for $300,000.
