Enterprise man seriously burned after grease fire

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Ian Robinson of Enterprise, Alabama, was heating some oil on the stove when the pan caught fire and severely burned him.

“Knowing Ian means loving him. He will give you the shirt off his back,” said his sister, Jillian Robinson;

Jillian said the pan caught fire and although she hasn’t been able to talk to Ian since the accident, the family believes he tried to take the pan outside to prevent the house from catching fire.

But he never reached the door. They think he slipped and then the fat burned his body.

Jillian said Ian immediately called for help.

“When we got the call that the fire had been set by the time we got to the house, they had already got him on the run, intubated him and got him to Mobile,” she said.

She said Ian has a long road to recovery and will undergo multiple surgeries.

“They’re going to have to do graphs of those areas and then the rest of his body, like his chest all the way down,” she said.

Jillian said Ian lives with their mother full-time because he has special needs.

But Jillian said she also has a special bond with Ian.

“We have always been very close,” she says. “The difference between us is a year and we spend a lot of time together. He spends a lot of time with my children, my children love him.

She said it has been very difficult for the entire family to deal with unexpected medical bills and trips to Mobile, but she says they are not alone.

“It’s been quite overwhelming how much love and support we’ve received, not just from family members and friends, but from people we don’t even know,” she said.

She told us that the accident shows what kind of person Ian is.

“It continues to speak volumes about what a good heart he has because he put everything on the line. You know, obviously we’d rather the house burn down than him being in the situation he’s in right now, but he was trying to save my mom’s house,” Jillian said.

Jillian has a message for Ian when he wakes up.

“You’re loved and cared for and we’re glad you’re still here, but you know what… you could have burned that house down, buddy,” she said.

Ian’s family has one GoFundMe for anyone who wants to help.
