Ravindra Jadeja was shocked by India’s late collapse on Day 1: happened in 10 minutes

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja joked that the dressing room was not given time at all to regret or analyze a dismissal late on Day 1 as the team lost back-to-back wickets in the space of 10 minutes in Mumbai on Friday, November 1.

The Indian team collapsed against New Zealand late on Day 1 of the final Test match. From 78/1, India ended the day at 86/4 in a matter of 10 minutes as they relinquished a huge lead. The mood of the Mumbai crowd was dampened as Yahasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli threw away their wickets to trouble India.

After the match day, Jadeja said the dressing room did not know how to react as India kept losing wickets. However, the player said individuals should not be blamed for Friday’s collapse.

“We were given no time at all. Everything happened in ten minutes. This is a team match and we cannot blame individuals. The next morning we have to build small partnerships and try to get close to the total of 235 runs that New Zealand has established or even talk about it,” Ravindra Jadeja said at the end-of-day press conference.

There was anger among the Indian fans and pundits, especially against Virat Kohli, who got out at mid-off and tried to make a run. Kohli failed to assess the fielder and fell hugely short on his creases, which became the final dismissal on the day. Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif was furious with the batsman and slammed him for his poor ratings throughout the series.

“Virat Kohli has made a complete roll in this series and now this lapse in judgment must be resolved. This must change if India are to reach the WTC final,” Mohammed Kaif wrote on Twitter on Friday.
