Man extradited to Mcduffie County 1 year after armed robbery

DEARING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A suspect has been extradited to McDuffie County in connection with a 2023 armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Corderro Latron Morton, 34, was booked into the McDuffie County Jail on Wednesday, according to jail bookings.

On May 16, emergency services responded when a victim was transported to Doctors Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left leg.

Once on scene, officers contacted the victim, who told them he had been messaged by the suspect on Facebook Marketplace to purchase his dirt bike, the incident report said.

The victim told officers that the suspect had been dropped off by another unknown person when he stopped by to purchase the dirt bike.

Officers say the suspect then pointed a gun at the victim and shot him. The incident report shows that the victim did so shot back and threw his gun at the suspect.

According to the incident report, the victim then took cover as the suspect continued to shoot at him before riding the dirt bike toward Augusta Road.

Officers say both the victim’s and the suspect’s weapons were found outside the house.

According to the report, officers were then called to assist in a motorcycle chase with the suspect involved in the incident.

Morton allegedly tried to flee from deputies, nearly hitting several other cars as he drove east on Augusta Highway into Columbia County, according to the incident report.

Officers say they notified the Columbia County Department to assist.

While on Augusta Highway, officials said the dirt bike stopped working. Morton allegedly left the bicycle in front of a resident on Gordon Highway and fled on foot behind the house towards the woods.

Officials say they lost sight of Morton in the woods, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has set up a perimeter to locate the suspect.

According to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, Morton was in custody for another agency and was being transported from Macon State Prison.

Morton is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm or knife while committing or attempting to commit certain crimes, according to jail bookings.

Records show Morton is being held in the McDuffie County Jail. His bail was denied.
